The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui by Bertold Brecht
A more serious topic this month, Brecht’s wonderful satirical allegory of the rise to power of Hitler and the Nazis. Ui is a small time Chicago gangster in the 30’s, who together with his henchmen provides “protection” for businesses and people in the grocer trade – but gradually it becomes something far more dangerous. Written in three weeks of furious activity in 1941, its a great read.
Everyone is welcome including non-members, and it will take place in the theatre bar, starting at 7.30pm. Come along at any time during the evening and join in reading, just listen or maybe just chat about the play. We look forward to seeing you.
