This summer Penrith Players is staging ‘Our Country’s Good’ by Timberlake Wertenbaker, from June 6th-8th, a play considered to be a modern classic and widely taught in A Level theatre studies. The play is based on a true story about a group of British convicts and their Royal Marine guards staging the first ever play to be performed in Australia. The play is period set during the 1780’s and is a hard hitting drama dealing with the themes of redemption, what it means to be ‘civilized’ and the transformative power of theatre as a force for good.

Penrith Players is holding the first casting meeting on the evening of the 25th February at 7:30 in the Penrith Playhouse Bar. The cast consists of eleven members (seven male, four female). Most if not all the cast play dual roles, a convict and an officer, and the play uses this to explore the duality between different people from different backgrounds.

If this interests you, come along to the Casting Evening to find out more and how to get involved. Anyone is welcome, whether you’re wanting to act in the production or just want to come along to the read through feel free, the more the merrier!
