Synopsis: This autumn Penrith Players are presenting one of the great classics of the British stage, The Importance of Being Earnest, by Oscar Wilde. This comedy has long been a favourite with audiences and performers alike.

John Davies is directing the play. He said: “This wonderful play is pure joy to direct. It has the grace, the wit, and the charm of an immaculate Mozart divertimento. It positively dances along through its sequence of highly improbable goings-on, and has a set of characters – virtually caricatures, in effect – that never fails to delight. Ever since its first performance on Valentine’s Day in 1895 the dazzling epigrammatic style (brilliant one-liners in today’s currency!) of Wilde’s Trivial Comedy for Serious People has amused and enchanted audiences throughout the world.

The cast is one of the best I have ever worked with, and the back-up team second to none. All is set for a week of Wildean genius to add glitter to those October evenings!”[/title]
