Dec 9th & 16th

Do you like doing silly voices? Do you love making people laugh? Could you be a Goon?

The Goon Show is a British radio comedy programme, originally produced and broadcast by the BBC from 1951 to 1960. Subversive and absurdist, The Goon Show, written by Spike Milligan, is credited as influencing the likes of The Beatles and Monty Python.

Penrith Players is bringing three of the Goon Show’s most popular episodes to the stage –

  1. The Canal,
  2. The Dreaded Batter Pudding Hurler (Of Bexhill-on-Sea),
  3. The Treasure of Loch Lomond.

Characters

We are looking for 4 actors to play the many varied characters originally played by Spike Milligan, Peter Sellers, Harry Seacombe, and Wallace Greenslade.

We are also looking for 1 sound effects operator, a non-speaking role, but vital to bringing the madcap sounds of batter-pudding attacks and canal splashes to life.

All ages and genders welcome – we will be casting purely on your ability to do silly voices and an enthusiasm for nonsensical fun.

Read-through/Audition

Those interested need only attend one casting date, and both the 9th & 16th start at 7:30pm at the Playhouse.
