Arcadia needs “propping” up!

Rehearsals are under way for our next production in October, Tom Stoppard’s excellent play Arcadia which is about, among other things, romantic gardens, forgotten duels, lost poets, dwarf dahlias and the effect of sex on mathematically predictable events!   It’s considered to be his “masterpiece”, and is not to be missed.

Half of the play is set in a country mansion in 1809 and involves old books […]

Casting evening for Lord Arthur Savile’s Crime. Monday 19th September 7.30pm at the Playhouse

Think along the lines of The […]

Classic Theatre Cumbria’s remarkable achievement

King Lear, written in 1605 or 1606, shortly after James I ascended the throne and when the question of Elizabeth I¹s succession had been solved, deals not only with the problems arising from division of a kingdom between a king¹s heirs, but also with the subjects of disloyal children; age versus youth; madness, particularly that brought on by grief; […]

Autumn plays – date change

We have decided to swap round the two plays in autumn.  The delightful comedy Lord Arthur Savile’s Crime by Constance Cox, based on an Oscar Wilde short story, seemed more suitable for the Christmas period so that will now perform on 30th November to 3rd December.   Which means Tom Stoppard’s witty and engrossing masterpiece, Arcadia, […]
