One of Shakespeare’s strengths is how well he can draw characters and in King Lear he has brought this to a pinnacle of his art.  What’s more, it is written with his wonderful words and and is such a good story too. It is a play I have loved for a long time and in Classic Theatre Cumbria I realised we had the talent to present this to the county. Early rehearsals have already proved exciting and I know our King Lear will live long in the hearts of those who come to see it.

Synopsis:

Lear divides the kingdom between two of his daughters, the younger having displeased him. Despite their promises to house the king and his followers, the daughters go back on their word, the king is thrown out and descends into madness.
